The 17th Lecture Tour of the Tokai-Hokuriku Branch of the Cellulose Society of Japan, “Approaches to Solving Social Issues by Utilizing Cellulose,” was held on December 13 at the Step Hall of the Biomass Green Innovation Center (BGIC) of Kanazawa University. This lecture tour is held annually by the Tokai-Hokuriku Branch of the Cellulose Society of Japan.
Prof. Hiroshi Nonaka of Mie University, President of Tokai-Hokuriku Branch of Cellulose Society of Japan, gave an opening address, followed by presentations by Prof. Hiroshi Hasegawa of Kanazawa University, Associate Prof. Yasunori Baba of Ishikawa Prefectural University, and Mr. Naohiro Oyamada of Daicel Corporation, with Kosuke Kuroda, associate professor of Kanazawa University, as the chairman. Participants were then divided into three groups and toured BGIC, a place for industry-academia collaborative research.
Many Kanazawa University students participated in this lecture tour and learned about cutting-edge research on cellulose. In addition, researchers from universities, companies, and R&D institutes from various regions including Ishikawa, Toyama, Kyoto, Mie, Aichi, Gifu, and Shizuoka attended the lecture, and a total of about 40 people listened attentively.

Presented as a finalist at the 2nd Ishikawa Tech Plan Grand Prix organized by Ishikawa Prefecture and the Ishikawa Sunrise Industries Creation Organization (ISICO), and run by Leave a Nest Co., Ltd., and received the Komatsu Matere Award, the BIPROGY Award, and 1st place in the public vote.

We have started joint research on biomass with Daicel Corporation and Kyoto University. By utilizing our respective technologies and knowledge, we will promote research into the creation of new biomass-derived materials.
